The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided substantial support to the development of
rural electrification and renewable energy initiatives in Zambia, primarily
through its support for the creation and updating of the Rural Electrification Master Plan (REMP). The agency also conducted the Study for Power
System Development Master Plan in Zambia in 2010, and supported access to electricity in rural areas by
building distribution lines in seven provinces, thereby promoting economic and
social development in the concerned areas.
